How to compress images online
Add your JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF and SVG files
Drop JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF and SVG files into the box, choose them from your device, or paste them from your clipboard. You can add hundreds at once.
Compress your images privately on your device
Each image is compressed on your device at the lowest quality that still looks the same, and keeps its own format. Photos also lose their location data.
Download your smaller images
Save each file on its own, or take them all in one ZIP. Your files stay private: they never leave your device, so there is no upload to wait for.
Reduce image size without a visible change
Phones and cameras save photos with far more detail than the eye can see, and design tools add data a browser never draws. Compressing trims that excess, so photos, screenshots and logos often shrink a lot while still looking the same.
There is nothing to set. Sanil.app picks the smallest file that still looks the same, and every image keeps its own format: a JPG stays a JPG, and a PNG stays a PNG with its transparency. To change the format, use a Convert tool. To change the size in pixels, use Resize.
A photo carries the place it was taken, and many images are personal or not yet public. Everything is compressed on your device, so the original never leaves it, and the copy you share has its location data removed.
| Format | Best for | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| JPG | Photos you share, upload or print | Re-encodes the photo at the lowest quality that still looks the same, and removes location data |
| PNG | Screenshots, logos and graphics with transparency | Merges colours the eye can't tell apart and packs the pixel data more tightly |
| WebP | Website images that load fast | Re-encodes the image with more effort, at the lowest quality that still looks the same |
| AVIF | The smallest photos on modern websites | Re-encodes the image at the lowest quality that still looks the same |
| GIF | Short, simple animations | Stores only what changes between frames and trims the colour palette |
| SVG | Logos and icons that stay sharp at any size | Removes comments, editor metadata, unused definitions and extra decimal places |
Compress, convert or resize: which do you need?
The three jobs sound alike, but each changes a different thing. Compressing makes the file smaller and leaves the format and the size in pixels alone. Converting changes the format. Resizing changes the size in pixels, which makes the file smaller too.
For a very large photo, resize it to the size you need first, then compress it. For images on a website, converting to WebP often saves more than compressing alone.
| You want to | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Shrink a photo for email or an upload form | Compress JPG | Keeps the JPG and its size in pixels, with a much smaller file |
| Open an iPhone photo on Windows or in a form | HEIC to JPG | JPG opens on every device and website |
| Make website images load faster | JPG to WebP | WebP stores the same picture in less space |
| Fit an exact size in pixels | Resize images | Sets the width and height, or a social media size |
| Put your name or logo on photos | Watermark images | One mark on a whole batch |
Questions about compressing images
How do I compress an image online?
Drop your images into the box or choose them from your device, wait for the progress bars to finish, then download each file or all of them in one ZIP. There is nothing to set: the smallest file that still looks the same is picked for you.
Will compressing reduce the quality of my images?
Not in a way you can see. Sanil.app picks the lowest quality that still looks the same as the original. JPG, WebP and AVIF are lossy formats, so start from the original file when you can instead of compressing the same copy again and again.
Which image types can I compress?
JPG and JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF and SVG. Each keeps its own format, and animated GIFs stay animated. The table above links to a page for each format that explains exactly what changes.
Which image format gives the smallest file?
For photos, AVIF is usually the smallest, then WebP, then JPG. PNG and GIF files are larger. Compress keeps each image's format, so to switch to a smaller one, use a Convert tool such as JPG to WebP.
Can I compress an image to a size like 200 KB?
There is no target-size setting, because the tool picks the smallest file that still looks the same. If a form needs a smaller file still, use Resize to reduce the size in pixels first, then compress the result.
Can I compress many images at once?
Yes. Add a whole batch and download the results one by one or all together in a ZIP. A computer takes as many as it has memory for. A phone works through them one at a time, and can't open a photo over 64 megapixels. For a photo that large, use a computer or resize it first.
Does it remove location data from my photos?
Yes. Location data and camera details are removed, so a compressed photo doesn't show where it was taken.
Are my images private?
Yes. Sanil.app compresses your images on your device, so they are never uploaded and never reach a server. They stay yours.
